What Type Of Indoor Golf Flooring Should I Buy?

Flooring can be one of the most challenging and potentially confusion purchases in the process of setting up your home golf simulator.

In this post I’ll explain some of the most important considerations and introduce some of the products we recommend using.

Putting Turf Choices

If putting is an important part of your indoor golf experience, we highly recommend using a high qualiity putting turf. Popular options include:

  • MoneyPutt
  • Big Moss
  • NP45/NP55
  • Turf Factory Direct

In general, indoor golf putting turf will cost a few dollars per sq. ft. Cheaper options like “grizzly grass” exist, but will wear out quickly, especially in the stance area.

Sub Floor Materials

The most common type of sub floor underlayment for “building up” indoor golf simulator flooring is EVA foam tiles. Foam tile golf sub floors range in thickness, and are most commonly used in a combination of the following sizes:

  • 1/2 inch
  • 3/4 inch
  • 1 inch
  • 1.5 inch

Because putting turf, hitting strips, and stance mats all vary in overall height and thickness, before deciding on which indoor golf foam tiles to purchase, you’ll want to be aware of how these choices can impact your flooring needs.

Whenever possible, I recommend combining two layers of 1 inch EVA foam tiles to create a 2 inch high indoor golf simulator putting flooring surface that is the most flexible and timeless choice for the wide selection of hitting strips and stance matts.

If your ceiling space is height-challenged, you can go with a golf simulator floor that is not quite as high, but it will limit your choices in hitting surfaces.
