The Square Golf launch monitor is a recent entrant to the home golf simulator market, and somewhat of a disruptor as a budget camera based option with a realistic putting and chipping experience.
Is The Square the right launch monitor for you? Let’s look at the details with a clear and concise overview by our friends at Breaking Eighty below:
The Square launch monitor was the start of my indoor golf journey, at the time I wasn’t sure I was ready to invest in a golf simulator for my garage, and I didn’t have the depth for a radar-based unit like the Rapsodo MLM2Pro.
In my head, camera-based launch monitors were a luxury item that was out of my budget at the time. I spent hours researching and watching every YouTube review video that came out showcasing the features, and quickly decided to order.
Even though I have since upgraded to an overhead launch monitor (Protee VX), I was completely satisfied with my Square unit and still own it to this day.
The primary reason for my upgrade was that I am left-handed and didn’t want the hassle of moving and realigning a unit every time anyone else in my family wanted to play.
The Square is the first launch monitor I recommend to anyone looking to get started playing indoor golf, and not looking to spend a lot of money. The data is accurate, and gameplay is realistic, both on the native software and via third-party software like GSPRO.
I look forward to watching the team behind the unit expand the software and add more features over time.

You will still need a valid subscription to each product you wish to use, but unlike many other launch monitors, The Square does not bundle third-party software access with tiered subscription levels.

Is The Square Good For Putting?
The Square is one of the best launch monitors (at any price point) for putting. It reads ball speeds for putts as low as 1.1 mph which accurately tracks even the shortest tap-ins.
In the video below, Joe Legowski gives us a detailed review of the putting cababilities of the unit:
Is The Square Good For Chipping?
The Square is equally good for chipping, tracking ball speed on shots as low as 3.4 mph for short chips on up.
In the video below, Joe Legowski tests the chipping capabilities of the unit:
How Big Is The Hitting Area?
The size of the Square Launch Monitor hitting area is approximately 6 inches x 6 inches (15cm x 15cm), one of the only weak points for our favorite budget launch monitor.
Pro Tip: A smaller hitting area can lead to more wear on your hitting surface, we suggest rotating the area you hit from frequently to spread out the wear pattern. Some users use a slider to move the ball hitting area around.
What Is “The Swing Stick”
The Swing Stick estimates all ball data, and measures club data. It’s an interesting concept for users in a space that can’t safely swing a golf club, and a great option for young children to get started.
I would prefer to see the Swing Stick as an optional add-on accessory, and not bundled in the purchase.
ProTee VX Warranty
Square Golf offers customers peace of mind with a two-year limited warranty, covering any defects or malfunctions that are not caused by misusing the unit, modifying the unit, or accidental damage.
In the event of a problem with your launch monitor, Square Golf will either repair the product or replace it.
I personally had a warranty claim experience with The Square. As an early adopter, I had one of the earliest units sold to the US market, and it stopped working after a month.
I’m happy to report that the support team at The Square quickly replaced my unit with a new one, which has worked flawlessly ever since.
